The guest room. It's nice to have a guest room that has a homey feeling to it. It makes guests feel comfortable, and the host feel proud. Below I've rounded up my mother in law's top 10 tips to help create a more home-like atmosphere in your guest room.
Make note of items and amenities you wish you had or forgot when you stay over someone else’s home. Examples include a makeup mirror, hair dryer, iron, small ironing board stored in a closet.
In the closet space, include empty clothes hangers and a hamper or basket for dirty laundry.
Spend the night in your guest room. Sometimes you don’t realize if your guests are uncomfortable until you experience it yourself. Things like a noisy fan, uncomfortable bed or too much light in the room at night. You'll be able to make changes accordingly
Whenever you stay at a hotel, look for the fancy in-room toiletries that are brand names or don’t have hotel logos. Take a set home with you to add to your guest bath.
Keep toothbrushes new and unopened toothbrushes on hand. Dollar store ones are perfect for one night uses. Great for unexpected guests or those that forget to bring the essentials with them.
Consider facial tissues, cotton swabs, cotton balls as essentials as well. I also keep some feminine products handy. Because we’ve all been there.
I also like to make a basket in the room with snacks & water. Sometimes guests would like a late night snack or water, but don’t want to go foraging in the host's kitchen.
A luggage rack is nice to have somewhere in your guest space to put luggage on.
If space and budget allow, nclude a small coffee station. Guest dont always feel like getting dressed to go get coffee in the kitchen.
If you know your guests have a special need, try to have accommodate and have things ready for them.
