Easy Flour Tortilla Recipe For Weeknight Dinners
Tortillas are essential for any Mexican appetizer, dip, or main course. FLOUR TORTILLAS are used for burritos, quesadillas and even a tortilla bowl.
THIS EASY RECIPE WILL GIVE YOU SOFT HOMEMADE FLOUR TORTILLAS PERFECT FOR WEEKNIGHT DINNERS.
ingredients:
3 cups of all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup (4oz) of melted butter
1 cup warm water
recipe:
in a bowl combine all ingredients. using your hands bring everything together and knead 2-5 minutes until you have a smooth soft dough. dough should be soft and slightly sticky but not wet.
cover dough and let rest for 10 minutes
divide dough into 10 balls, or more depending on how big or small you want your tortillas. cover and let rest again for 10 minutes.
heat a comal (griddle), or large cast iron pan over high heat. do not oil griddle or pan, must be dry.
take 1 small ball of dough and use a rolling pin to roll it into a disk. as thin or thick as you want. sprinkle flour on your work surface to prevent sticking. (if you have a tortilla press use it here)
lay the rolled out tortilla onto the hot griddle/pan. let cook on one side for 20 seconds and flip. a few brown spots will appear and it might even puff up a little. remove and keep warm in a clean kitchen towel or tortilla warmer.
This recipe can be prepared within a short period of time, without a lot of prep or many ingredients!
